It was a vicious attack from the depths of the internet: Last Thursday, Fatzer AG at Romanshorn TG was hacked and then blackmailed. Fatzer specializes in wire rope for cable cars and bridges and is a subsidiary of the Brugg Group.
During their attack, the hackers encrypted the data records on the Brugg Group’s server. After encrypting the servers, the cybercriminals demanded money. It is not known whether the company will transfer money to hackers to get your data back. The Brugg Group has filed a criminal complaint, as reported by “St. Galler Tagblatt ”.
No data of the affected client
Despite the attack, there was no need to stop production. Customer data should not have been affected either. It is not yet clear who is behind the hacking attack.
Just six days later, the company is making headlines again. The reason: in a former Fatzer AG production hall, fires broke out in different places at the same time. Until recently, steel cables were produced in the hall.
$ 6 million
Rumors are circulating in Romanshorn that they see a connection between the hackers’ attack and the fire. The police take on arson and have also initiated fire investigations.
Fatzer AG tells BLICK: “We want to make it clear that there is no connection between the IT problems at Brugg Group AG and the fire in the old Fatzer AG production hall. The aforementioned factory site in Romanshorn was sold to Manser Immobilien AG over a year ago and is no longer owned by Fatzer. “
In May, the train manufacturer Stadler Rail was also targeted by cybercriminals. Apparently data was stolen. The hackers tried to blackmail the company. Images of stolen documents later appeared on Twitter. The blackmailers demanded $ 6 million from Stadler Rail. (pbe)
