The cantonal health directors are concerned. The number of corona cases has increased again for days and weeks. Currently, the focus is on the canton of Vaud, which has by far the highest number of new infections. Currently, one in three cases in Switzerland comes from Vaud.
And the problem child, of all people, is loosening quarantine regulations! All that remains to be quarantined is anyone who has a relationship with an infected person or who lives together. So far, all people who were within 1.5 meters of an infected person for at least 15 minutes have been affected.
Relaxation not in the spirit of GDK
“Basically, the cantons should keep up their contact tracing efforts,” explains Tobias Bär from the Directors of Health Conference (GDK). “But when the workload is heavy, teams must act pragmatically and assess what is still feasible.”
Because the flexibility has to do with the high number of cases in Vaud. It is simply no longer possible to trace all the contacts of all the infected people. One problem: there are too few staff to track contacts in Vaud. “In such a case, you should limit yourself to close contacts,” says GDK spokesman Bär. And then you can just quarantine them.
Mask requirement needs to be expanded
For this reason, it is important for health directors that cantonal and regional measures continue to be followed to contain the virus, as they stressed again in a press release on Friday. Therefore, the GDK recommends the introduction or expansion of the mask requirement to retail stores and other indoor public access spaces. So the health directors would like to tighten the screw more.
The GDK has its eye on the club scene, among other things. Recommend a maximum number of people in nightclubs or clearly defined sectors. Contact details should be collected separately for each sector. If necessary, nightclubs and discos should also be closed again.
Protection concepts in events are also very important. And for private celebrations, not only is a maximum number of guests recommended; Contact details should also be collected here.
Keep the impact as small as possible
“These are pragmatic measures with which the effects on the economy and the interference in the personal freedom of citizens can be reduced to the minimum possible”, says the president of GDK, Lukas Engelberger (45).
It is important that the cantons and regions continue to take the measures that are adapted to their situation. And contact tracing in particular is crucial to containing the virus, it is emphasized again. Perhaps then again a clue for the canton of Vaud.
