It will not merge with Staffelegg. That was decided by the citizens of Densburg at the Gmeind on Wednesday night. They said no to staying in the future area of Aarau, where the next task would be to draft the merger agreement. 155 out of a total of 557 eligible voters attended the gym, where, because of this “absolute record of participation,” according to Ammann Roger Meyer, the wearing of a mask was mandatory. The turnout was 27.8 percent.
The fact that the decision was made after only an hour and a half shows that the opinions were taken. A few questions were asked, but there was virtually no discussion of the pros and cons. The mayor once again stressed that that night the merger would not be voted, but only the drafting of the contract, and that the final decision would be made at the polls in the summer of 2021.
The council members themselves were all in favor of the merger. As a result, Ammann was disappointed after the vote: “I saw it as a great opportunity, and I hope everyone really gets up and gets involved in the future when there are positions to fill again.”
The rejection is a bit surprising. It had been pretty quiet in Densbueren in the past few months, and a committee from the failed was activated recently. At Aarau, in particular, it was assumed that Densbüren, who would have made a relatively large financial benefit from the merger, would probably say yes; yes, it was almost feared that Aarau would eventually no longer stay as a merger partner, except for the smallest municipality in terms of population, but the largest in terms of area, called the mountain.
The decision was made 61 yes to 81 no “relatively clear,” Roger Meyer said. If you look closely, the proportion of non-votes was 52.3 percent of the voters present and 14.5 percent of all citizens entitled to vote. The decision is subject to an optional referendum. That would require 139 signatures. Last year there was already a referendum in Densbüren – at that time it was a planned merger with Herznach and Ueken – so it cannot be ruled out that the issue of future space has not yet fully ended and that the citizens of Densburg have yet to They will go to the polls.
How will things continue in future space?
Suhr has yet to decide on September 27 and Unterentfelden on October 18 at the polls about staying in the merger project. In Aarau and Oberentfelden there could still be referendums against the positive decision there about the future area in the residents’ council or the municipal assembly.
Even if only Densbüren leaves the project, the district or electoral district cards must be reorganized. With fewer than 800 inhabitants, Densbüren is by far the smallest of the five future area communities to date.
