Half of the adults in Switzerland would like a voluntary vaccination against the coronavirus paid for by basic insurance if an effective vaccine were to hit the market.
This is the result of a representative survey conducted by the Internet comparison service Comparis. 49.2 percent of those who participated in the survey requested that the costs be borne by basic insurance for everyone, not only for risk groups, such as vaccination against influenza. This attitude is particularly prevalent in German-speaking Switzerland.
However, a fifth of those under 56 want a general mandatory vaccination. 19.6 percent of 15- to 35-year-olds and 19.4 percent of 36- to 55-year-olds would like this. In French-speaking Switzerland, the proportion of people advocating compulsory vaccination is particularly high: 23.2 per cent in all age groups (compared to 15.1 per cent of German-speaking Swiss) and among people with a high level of education.
A clear majority also want fines for non-compliance with the quarantine obligation and the provision of incorrect personal data in restaurants or clubs (73.4 percent), as well as for the retention of contact persons after a positive corona test (68 , 7 percent).
According to the majority of respondents (66.7 percent), failure to comply with the mask requirement in prescribed places should also be fined. However, 67.9 percent of those surveyed do not want fines for breaking distance rules. This is especially true for those under the age of 35.
There is disagreement among respondents regarding renewed border closures should an entire country neighboring Switzerland be on the list of countries at risk subject to quarantine. Half of them think that a temporary closure of borders for individuals makes sense. The other rejects it.
The proportion of supporters of border closure is significantly higher in rural areas (51.7 percent) than among urban residents (40 percent).
