Lucerne sporting director Remo Meyer has an answer ready for Darian Males’ departure to Inter Milan: 25-year-old striker Louis Schaub of 1. FC Köln moves to central Switzerland as a loan player for the upcoming season.
Louis Schaub was last loaned by Cologne to Hamburger SV in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the Austrian national team, the attacking midfielder has so far made 14 international appearances with five goals. Swiss Marcel Koller once took him to the national team and made his debut there.
Definitive acquisition possible
The loan contract with the offensive player is dated until June 30, 2021 and includes the possibility of a definitive acquisition by FC Luzern, the club writes in its press release. In Cologne, his contract runs until the summer of 2022.
This is how the FCL presents its arrival through social networks:
One of Louis Schaub’s strengths seems to be his last passes: in 39 matches in the 2nd Bundesliga for Cologne and HSV, he has provided 14 assists and scored 3 goals himself. In 160 games in the Austrian Bundesliga, he scored 25 goals and gave 24 assists. By the way, he also played for Colonia in the first division of our neighboring country to the north: there he played 9 games (1 goal, 1 assist). That was in preseason in the fall before he was loaned out to HSV.
“We are proud to be able to introduce Louis Schaub as a new team member at FC Luzern,” said FCL sporting director Remo Meyer when the club signed the contract. “It will offer us new opportunities, especially on offense, and it will help the team. We are also convinced that with him we have signed a player who, thanks to his experience, can also play an important role off the pitch ”.
Aroused positive memories of the Austrian “Köbi” Jantscher
Louis Schaub is also looking forward to appearing soon at Lucerne: “Positive conversations with the club quickly convinced me that a move to FC Luzern is a great opportunity for me. I am sure that I will soon feel at home in the club and in the region. I hope I can start soon. “It is possible that Schaub could play in the first Super League game of the new season in Lugano on Saturday (7pm).
Incidentally, the FCL has fond memories of the last Austrian in the blue and white dress: left wing Jakob “Köbi” Jantscher (at Sturm Graz since January 2018) was a crowd favorite at the Swisspor Arena from 2014 to 2017 The former Austrian international, now 31, scored 12 goals in 71 league games for Lucerne and provided 17 assists. If Louis Schaub has similar success, FCL fans will love him too.
