Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Sunday night, firefighters and police started a fire on Bahnhofstrasse in Aarburg. The attic was on fire. The Aarburg, Oftringen and Olten fire departments, as well as the Zofingen base fire department, were on site. Thick billows of smoke could be seen for miles, even shrouding Aarburg’s fortress in mist.
City Council appreciates the emergency services
Shortly after midnight, Fredy Nater, the local Aarburg FDP city council, gave the go-ahead: “My thanks to everyone involved who did everything possible in this fire to make sure the fire was quickly under control.”
The Aarburg fire department was quickly on the scene to prevent worse. The reinforcements came from Zofingen, Oftringen and Olten, which again shows very well: “The cooperation works very well.”
A reader’s video shows the flames in the attic:
Residents have to be transferred
One person was slightly injured. The apartment building is completely uninhabitable. The municipality has provided alternative accommodation to the now homeless residents, Aargau canton police said.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear. The police have started the investigation. Negligence cannot be ruled out, he said. (jam / az)
