SBB will start a new test at the end of September. 200 people participate. You will get a quarter of the ticket price if the train is more than five minutes late. Up to half the ticket price is available after a ten minute delay. SRF reports Friday.
Industry association Alliance Swisspass has confirmed the pilot project, which will initially run until the end of October. “It’s also about getting as many cases as possible to test the system optimally. And get feedback from customers on how the process works and if it is configured optimally for them, ”Thomas Ammann told SRF.
GA clients should also receive compensation. At least one quintuplet, maximum the daily value of your subscription. With the second class GA travel card, that’s about ten francs. The problem: GA customers don’t have a ticket that they can show to prove they were actually on a late train.
So there is room for abuse, as the tester also admits. “It’s also about getting as many cases as possible to test the system optimally. And get feedback from customers on how the process works and if it is configured optimally for them, ”says Ammann.
Millions in costs for SBB
Starting in January, everyone should be compensated if the train is at least an hour late. The rule is the consequence of the Federal Council’s decision in mid-May. Passengers who have purchased a ticket for at least CHF 20 are entitled to compensation. That should cost public transportation an amount in the single-digit million.
However, there will be no money in January for a five minute delay. “Five minutes is the threshold during the pilot test, so our experts can test the system sufficiently from application to payment,” says an SBB spokesperson.
In the last 365 days, almost one in five international connections was delayed more than five minutes. That is almost 25,000 trains! The number is even higher on interurban routes. 50,000 connections were running with a delay of more than five minutes. That is every 20th movement. The situation is again different for regional transport, as the figures from the public transport platform pünktlichkeit.ch show. Hundreds of thousands were on the move here with a delay of more than five minutes in the last 365 days.
