She hides in a secret place in the United States, fearing to lose her life. Now Chinese virologist Dr. Li-Meng Yan went public for the first time since he fled China. On a British talk show, she made the explosive claim that she had scientific evidence that Covid-19 was created by man at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Yan made the reveal Friday on the valley show “Loose Women,” which portrays brave and inspiring women.
The scientist says she did some of the first research on Covid-19 last year. When asked where the deadly virus, which killed more than 900,000 people worldwide, came from, Yan answered without blinking: “It comes from the laboratory, the laboratory in Wuhan, and the laboratory is owned by the Chinese Government Controls.”
The whistleblower calls the fact that the virus spread to people at a fresh produce market in Wuhan as a cover-up by Chinese authorities. “The virus did not come from nature,” he says, explaining that he has information directly from the China Center for Disease Prevention (CDC) and local doctors.
When she was still working in Hong Kong, she was silenced by the authorities and her former supervisor at the University of Hong Kong. The university’s school of public health is a reference laboratory affiliated with the World Health Organization (WHO). They had advised him to “be quiet and be careful.” “Otherwise, we will get in trouble and disappear.” In April, Yan fled Hong Kong to the United States. Her information was removed from government databases even before she fled. She had to flee because “she knows how China treats informants.”
Artificial or natural origin?
He now plans to publish scientific evidence that the virus was created by man in the Wuhan laboratory. “The genome sequence is like a human fingerprint,” he explains. She will explain why the virus comes from the laboratory in China and why the laboratory is the only place where the new pathogen could be produced. “Even if you don’t have a background in biology,” Dr. Yan says, “You can check, identify and verify it yourself.”
The scientist has previously stated that Beijing was trying to silence anyone who tried to sound the alarm when the virus first broke out in Wuhan last year. Even the computers and phones of journalists trying to report on the virus had been confiscated. According to the researcher, it is important for the world to know the origin of the virus in order to overcome it. “Otherwise, it will be a threat to everyone’s life,” warns Yan. “I know that if I don’t tell the world the truth, I will regret it.”
The Chinese authorities have erased all traces of her and spread rumors about her that she was a liar. Yuan Zhiming, director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology in question, also denied reports that the virus accidentally spread from its facilities. “It is impossible for the virus to come from us,” Zhiming said in April.
The vast majority of scientists also seem to have concluded that the virus, due to its genetic makeup, occurs naturally and is transmitted from an animal, possibly a bat, to humans. (kes)
