AZ Medien has made the final decision to expand Watson to western Switzerland. Editor-in-chief Sandra Jean is looking for around 20 journalists.

The Watson Romandie news portal will definitely start next spring. The Watson subsidiary in western Switzerland will become operational in March 2021. To this end, Watson will establish an editorial team of around 20 journalists at its Lausanne location. As already communicated, the editor-in-chief will be Sandra Jean, the last editorial director of “Le Nouvelliste”.

In April, Aargau publishing house AZ Medien announced that it was examining the Watson structure in French-speaking Switzerland. In late August, the board of directors made the final decision to expand.

Michael Wanner, Managing Director of Watson: “We have looked at the project in detail over the last few months and have had numerous discussions. In particular, the positive response from the advertising market has reinforced our project. I am glad that now we can finally start. According to Michael Wanner, the financing of the project is assured. Donor participation from Western Switzerland is still being sought. We are currently in discussions with potential high profile partner organizations.

The focus is now on the structure of the editorial team. watson will offer a full journalistic program with news, debate and entertainment. Sandra Jean is looking for about 20 journalists in Lausanne for this purpose. “Watson Romandie should reflect the diversity of society and be a news portal for everyone. We are looking for both young talents and experienced editors, ”says Jean. It is important that they have the necessary passion. Both for “digital journalism and for French-speaking Switzerland”, says Jean, according to whose information more than 100 requests have already been received in a very short time.
