In early September, the Friborg Foyer Notre Dame nursing home in Siviriez reported 37 positive cases of corona. A week later, 53 people were infected and seven died. On Thursday, there was an eighth death, as Willy Schorderet, senior administrator for Glanebezirks and head of the health sector there, told VIEW.
The CVP politician cannot explain why the house was so affected by the virus. “There are multiple possibilities. An employee or a resident who went out for the weekend, maybe a visitor.” The difficulty is that infected people often show no symptoms for the first few days.
Act the same as with the first wave
Schorderet doesn’t think the house did anything wrong. After all, there would not have been a single case in the first wave. He says that hygiene rules are clearly defined and that the same procedure was followed as before. However, there are external conditions that make prevention difficult: “The building is old and narrow, which certainly contributed to the spread of the virus.”
Residents have been constantly evaluated since the first wave as soon as symptoms appeared. “This time we had four positive people after the first tests, 11 the next day, then 34.” About 30 employees and 25 residents have yet to become infected, the politician says.
To avoid more cases, residents stay in Siviriez. The house is closed to relatives. In addition, nine residents have been transferred to a hospital to relieve staff. Schorderet doesn’t let employees get in his way: “They all do an excellent job and act responsibly. Everyone always obeyed the rules. “
Of the 53 known infected so far, 34 are residents and 19 are staff members. (vof)
