Large station in Erlen TG: the first of 58 new trains for BLS has been built. Stadler and BLS introduced the Flirt-type train to the public for the first time this Wednesday. As part of the deployment, the new trains were named after Mika. They will replace three older vehicle types and ensure the planned expansion of the BLS route network.
The trains will come into operation gradually from 2021, according to a message. With the latest generation of Flirt, the ETCS Guardia train control system developed by Stadler is used for the first time on Swiss rails.

Bernard Guillelmon, CEO of BLS, is delighted with the new train: “Mika connects people and regions: it will soon bring our customers safely and comfortably to their destination on the Bern S-Bahn network and Regio-Express routes”, he says. Both Flirt’s state-of-the-art S-Bahn and RegioExpress have low floors and spacious entrance areas with standing areas, large windows, storage space, first and second class outlets, and good cell phone reception, as they say. . They are on one level and 105 meters long.
Spuhler boss is happy
RegioExpress trains are equipped with a refreshment area. The trains for S-Bahn traffic and for Regio-Express traffic are technically identical. The trains will be used gradually from 2021. The first trains run on the Bern – Neuchâtel – La-Chaux-de-Fonds NE line.
