A 75-year-old motorcycle driver fell into Lake Silvaplana in an accident in the Upper Engadine on Sunday. The man died shortly after.
The motorcycle driver was on the Malojastrasse from Sils iE towards Silvaplana when he hit the railing in a left turn. It fell over the barrier at Lake Silvaplana, as the police of the canton of Graubünden announced on Monday.
The man was still accessible
Third parties alerted the rescuers. With the help of several bystanders, the police recovered the seriously injured but still responding man from the lake and began resuscitation.
A team of ambulances from the Upper Engadine Rescue and an air rescue team implemented further emergency medical measures for the injured. However, the motorcycle driver succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. Together with the prosecution, the cantonal police determine the exact course of the accident. (SDA)
