US President allegedly vilified soldiers: now Trump has a problem at the stupidest time

Donald Trump has insulted many people in his career. But now his alleged remarks about American soldiers overshadow the election campaign.

That is probably one of the reasons for the current enthusiasm for the magazine article «Atlantic», in which you can read that Donald Trump is said to have made disparaging comments about the fallen and wounded US soldiers: they were “losers” and “idiots.” The article, which is based on four anonymous sources, appeared last Thursday, but Donald Trump also launched his attacks on Sunday. «Atlantic» far. It is a “radical left magazine” that spreads “fake news and hate,” he tweeted.

In recent years, Donald Trump has insulted many people and treated them with bad words: immigrants, rivals, friends of the party, women, journalists. So far, it has survived the outrage it always provoked. But if it is true what «Atlantic» Trump faces a problem, because he touches the very core of his base.

Disrespect for the military, soldiers, and veterans – that’s exactly what Trump has been accusing others of for a long time. For example, footballers who kneel in protest at police violence when the national anthem is played.

Confirmed by other means

It is no wonder, then, that Trump sees grave political danger in this, and in the representation of the «Atlantic» with a vehemence that is unusual even by his own standards. In recent days, he has assembled an army of current and former employees of his administration, who have declared that Trump would never express disdain for members of the military.

It also doesn’t help Trump that some of his negative comments have been endorsed. He used to publicly refer to the late Republican Senator John McCain as a “loser.” He also said McCain could not be a war hero because he was captured and insulted the family of a fallen American soldier in the 2016 election campaign, statements that many commentators are now vocalizing.

Retired Major General Paul Eaton, founder of a progressive veterans organization, addressed Trump in a video that read: “You have shown your disrespect for the military countless times.”
