A police patrol found an injured man on the sidewalk who was being treated by several people. Further investigations by the prosecutor’s criminal police revealed that the 34-year-old man was traveling with two companions in the direction of Barfüsserplatz, as the prosecutor wrote.
For reasons that are still unknown, the group was sexually abused by a stranger. This suddenly struck the 34-year-old, causing him to fall to the ground and was knocked unconscious. He also attacked his partner. The perpetrator then left in an unknown direction. With several head injuries, the victim had to be admitted to the emergency room by the Basel-Stadt ambulance.
The course of events is investigated
As part of an immediate search, the police found the wanted man and wanted to control him. However, he vehemently resisted arrest and had to feel overwhelmed. The detainee is a 26-year-old Swiss. The exact course of events and the motive for the attack have not yet been clarified and are being investigated by the criminal police.
