No one has been frozen and resisted for so long: Austrian extreme athlete Josef Köberl (42) has frozen himself to a new world record. In just a bathing suit, he endured two hours, 30 minutes and 57 seconds in a glass booth filled with ice.
Köberl improved his previous record, which he set the year before, by more than 20 minutes. “I am over the moon, especially the sun, the heat is good,” said the employee of the Ministry of Climate Protection after leaving the ice cabin in Melk, Austria.
It also does not need heat in daily life
Köberl has trained as an “ice swimmer” for years. He discovered his passion for cold water some time ago while swimming in the English Channel. Also in everyday life largely dispenses with warmth. “I have already received a letter from the district heating plant that they think I have tampered with my meter because the consumption is very low,” said the Styrian from the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”.
According to Köberl, it is not so much about the physical challenge as it is about paying attention to the melting of glaciers. (kes / SDA)
