  • The Swiss Civil Democratic Party (BDP) wants to pave the way for a possible merger with the CVP to form a new center party with a change in its statutes.
  • At the BDP delegate assembly in Weissenstein (SO), the motto yes was approved for four of the five voting proposals.

The results of a member survey had shown that BDP members wanted a home for their values. “Now, together with CVP, we want to create the opportunity to continue maintaining and defending our values, which remain the same under a new roof, with care and pride,” party president Martin Landolt was quoted in the statement.

“We are confident that in the coming months we will be able to work together to create something historic that ensures that the political center in Switzerland is sustainable and has the success it deserves,” he continues.

Only the SVP initiative is rejected

BDP delegates also drafted slogans for the federal referenda on September 27. Delegates unanimously rejected what they saw as the negligent limitation initiative. The termination of the free movement of persons in the EU would have a serious impact on Switzerland.

With the vote on the planning decision on the acquisition of new fighter jets, a demand from the BDP will be satisfied. People must make the fundamental decision about acquiring airplanes. The delegates of the Swiss BDP spoke clearly for a yes. The armed forces are responsible for securing Swiss airspace and are an important part of security.

The motto yes for the two-week paternity leave was also indisputable. With the proposal presented by National Councilor Philipp Kutter (CVP / ZH) to increase child allowances, the compatibility of family and work is improved and the shortage of skilled workers is countered. Delegates also clearly said yes to this proposal. In the end, the majority of the delegates also voted yes to the new hunting law.

After the enthusiastic presentations by former Zürich BDP National Councilor Rosmarie Quadranti and Daniela Laufer (Swissholdings) against the corporate responsibility initiative, BDP delegates also adopted the motto of this referendum, which will be voted on on November 29.
