As part of an approach against so-called “self-impostors”, the Solothurn canton police have seized 65 vehicles so far this year. The authority announced this on Friday morning. It has also reported that 165 car drivers caused unnecessary noise or modified their vehicles.
In 90 cases, the suspects caused unnecessary noise with their vehicles, for example by revving the engine or driving at high revs in lower gears. 75 criminal charges were issued for driving non-compliant vehicles. Most of the time, the exhaust system or engine control was modified or the vehicles were structurally modified. The 65 seized vehicles were taken to the police for a motor vehicle inspection.
New controls announced
This year, the Solothurn canton police further tightened controls regarding unnecessary noise caused by auto-posers. The police have stepped up their actions since the spring and were able to maintain them in the summer months.
In recent years, the Solothurn canton police have received more and more complaints about deliberately caused car noise. In order to better take action against the phenomenon, the police specifically trained employees in all regions in 2019 and purchased special measuring devices in early 2020 to determine the sound level. In the canton of Solothurn, “auto-posers” can be found mainly in cities and agglomerations, according to authorities. The canton police announce new controls.
