They step on the gas, make noise, show off their rigged cars. No longer. The Solothurn canton police have declared war on the car victims. The hunt began in the spring. The authorities are now taking stock.
This year 65 cars were seized and 165 criminal charges were filed. “In 90 cases, the suspects caused unnecessary noise with their vehicles, for example by revving the engine or driving at high speed in low gears,” wrote the Solothurn cantonal police in a message.
75 criminal charges were issued for driving inappropriate vehicles. Most of the time, the exhaust system or engine control was modified or the vehicles were structurally modified.
Reason for rigorous checks on fake cars: Solothurn canton police have received more and more complaints about deliberate noise in cars in recent years. In order to better take action against the phenomenon, the police specifically trained employees in all regions in 2019 and purchased special measuring devices in early 2020 to determine the sound level.
