Roche is preparing a test that will simultaneously analyze corona viruses and influenza. This is possible thanks to an emergency approval from the US authorities.
It is important to be able to tell if you have a corona or just the flu. The symptoms are similar, but the consequences for those affected are not. Roche’s now-approved test checks for corona viruses and influenza at the same time.
For the test, a nasal swab is first taken from the patient. The result is there in eight hours. The test should also be available in Europe.
Corona rapid test
Roche announced Thursday that it would launch a rapid corona test on the market in September. It’s an antigen test. Such tests detect proteins specific to a pathogen.
The antigen test can be performed without a laboratory. All you need is a nasopharyngeal swab. The result should be ready in 15 minutes. This test will also be introduced in Europe from September. Roche plans to start selling 40 million rapid tests. (SDA / lui)
