The pressure on Bernard Guillelmon (54) has increased even more in recent weeks. Now the head of BLS has drawn the consequences. He resigns. The Swiss railway company announced this on Friday morning.
Reason for resignation: BLS improperly raised money from the state. Recently, the company misled the division’s accounts. This was announced by the Swiss Federal Audit Office (SFAO) on Thursday. This implies an amount “in the low single digit millions”, according to the SFAO.
It’s not the first time
A week and a half ago, the Federal Transport Office made public that transport companies such as the BLS Bern and SBB received too many subsidies.
Incorrect billing is not the first unpleasantly noticed by BLS. The company has already received unjustified subsidies from the state in the past, and this time significantly more.
The company once received 29 million francs and again 44 million francs more. The railway company cheated with excessive imputed interest and with the liquidation of income from the Libero network.
Regret was not enough
BLS has already reimbursed CHF 44 million in this context. Guillelmon then emphasized his regret. He also requested that the bonuses be canceled for 2019.
But that was not enough. Guillelmon used the publication of the SFAO report to “put implementation in new hands.” Starting in November 2020, BLS Cargo Head Dirk Stahl will lead the company as CEO on an interim basis.
