A queue several hundred meters long that barely moved for hours. In front of the corona test stations at the Zurich Triemli City Hospital and at the Spenglerpark in Münchenstein BL, such conditions are apparently normal, as several test people report to BLICK.
Reasons for the rush are rising infection rates and increasing numbers due to contact tracing. In the canton of Baselland there is only the test station in Münchenstein. In the canton of Zurich, any GP can perform cytology, but only a few offer the service.
Waiting time is annoying
In the queue in Münchenstein, VIEW met Andrew Kohlrieser (25). He had to have a corona test because he had contact with a colleague who had tested positive and was showing symptoms. “I was here to do the tests three weeks ago and it only took me 15 minutes. Now more than two hours? It can’t be, ”he says. “Why can’t you set up a digital booking tool and assign appointments?”
A BLICK reader was also upset about the conditions in Münchenstein. He came to the test on Monday afternoon. She also suffers from corona symptoms. She works in the medical field and is not allowed to approach Corona patients.
“I was in the queue for more than two and a half hours. There are no seats and it is exposed to the weather. The last 30 meters you have to wait in a zigzag column like in Europapark. You can’t keep your distance here, ”says the woman.
Münchenstein is looking for another location
The Basel Directorate of Health is aware of the problems with the test station. Spokesperson Rolf Wirz tells BLICK: “The test center is designed for 120 people a day, now we have double that. We are looking for an additional location to relieve Münchenstein. We have already increased the capabilities of the staff. “
It is almost impossible to speed up the process: “A smear doesn’t take long. But administration takes time. The data feed to BAG should work smoothly. We want to avoid incorrectly assigned tests. “
He cautions that sick patients are given priority when reporting to security personnel. There is also a mobile test team that examines frail patients at home.
Waiting in the rain with fever and cough
At the Triemli Hospital in Zurich, conditions were difficult to bear until Tuesday. A BLICK reader: “You can book an appointment on the Internet. But the system is usually complete for 48 hours. To get an appointment beforehand, you must queue. “
Another BLICK reader writes that he waited 45 minutes in the rain on Sunday with a fever and cough. At 4.15 pm, a member of the security service informed him that he could go home. The center will close soon.
The Triemli-Spital defends itself against the accusations. Spokesperson María Rodríguez says: “Since the end of the summer break, the need for tests has increased from 60 to 190 tests per day today. We have already reacted: in a week we set up a waiting tent with heating and air conditioning for 40 people “.
