Shortly before 9 a.m. M. There was an attack on a branch of the St. Galler Kantonalbank in Sevelen SG. According to the police, two men participated in the attack.
Even before emergency services arrived at the Bahnhofstrasse bank, strangers were able to escape the crime scene. They were armed during the action.
License plate on getaway car copied from police car
During the attack, the perpetrators proceeded “in a very professional manner”, as the police wrote in a message. “The two wore black clothing inspired by the intervention unit with the words ‘Police’ on them. They also wore black helmets, ski masks and combat boots, and each was armed with a pistol. “
The search is now for two perpetrators who are between 175 and 180 centimeters tall. The two men spoke broken German. In fact, they carried a red bag with a white Swiss cross. During the attack, the men stole cash for a previously unknown amount. According to Kapo St. Gallen, the getaway car could be an older blue Skoda Octavia. The perpetrators were traveling with forged St. Gallen license plates, which they copied from a license plate on a St. Gallen cantonal police patrol car.
“A normal procedure”
The police presence in the region has not been overlooked since. Several BLICK readers report street patrols and police officers at freeway exits. “There are checkpoints everywhere,” says a witness.
At BLICK’s request, the police confirmed a major operation. “This is normal procedure,” explains spokesman Gian Andrea Rezzoli to the many police officers visible in the area.
Don’t act yourself, but alert the police.
The search for the culprits continues. “Here the neuralgic points are controlled and the vehicles are controlled”, Rezzoli continues.
Currently there is no danger to the population. But: “Since it must be assumed that the perpetrators are armed, caution is required,” Rezzoli said. “If someone sees suspicious people, you should not act yourself, but alert the police.” Persons who can provide information on the course of the events, the getaway car or the two suspects are asked to report to the St. Gallen cantonal police at 058 229 49 49.
