On Tuesday (September 1, 2020), shortly after 00:30 am, a 41-year-old man was driving in the direction of Rheineck like a driver in the opposite direction on the A13 motorway. He was arrested and controlled by the police of the canton of St. Gallen. He couldn’t drive. His driver’s license was withdrawn on the spot.

Several drivers informed the cantonal emergency call center that they had crossed an oncoming driver in the direction of St. Margrethen who was in the passing lane in the direction of Rheineck.

Later, several police patrols were withdrawn from the canton of San Galo. They blocked the A1 at the Rheineck exit. There they were able to arrest the 41-year-old driver. It turned out that the man was driving his car in an inappropriate state. He showed clear signs of alcohol consumption. Empty and partially open whiskey bottles and beer cans were also found in his car.

The San Galo canton prosecutor ordered that a blood and urine sample be taken from the man. He had to surrender his driver’s license on the spot.

Since the car showed recent damage, it must be assumed that it collided with vehicles or road facilities on the road.
