The Basel LDP is also angered by the “beggars’ nuisance” in Basel-Stadt, as it writes in a message. Now “energetic action” is needed, he thinks, referring to the experience of party member and Grand Council candidate Urs Degen, in whose study three South-East European-looking people recently wanted to break in and spend the night. Degen had to chase away the uninvited guests “out loud,” writes the PLD.

A “terrifying incident” to which Grand Councilor Alex Ebi responded with an interpellation. It has observed that beggars, apparently from Romania, have been confiscating Basel’s places of residence, such as playgrounds, residing there and relieving themselves in the parks for some time.

Ebi asks the government if measures are planned and if they are willing to learn more about the background of the beggar gangs. Ebi also wants to know if the governing council is ready to present a proposal to the Grand Council that includes a ban on begging.
