On June 22, 2019, several shots were fired on Brombacherstrasse. It was the climax with the announcement of a drama about injured sensitivities.
About two weeks before the bloody act, there was a roar in front of the Basel Club Moon on Claraplatz. A man who is now 32 years old threatened a 29-year-old with a knife. A police patrol who was present intervened with pepper spray and carried the man with the knife to the pole.
According to the indictment, that was not enough for the then 31-year-old. He got a 9mm pistol on the black market. The night of the crime, he went to the residence of his victim. On the way, on Brombacherstrasse, his future victim ran straight into his arms.
He drew the gun without saying much
When they met, the defendant drew the weapon without many words and fired four shots in rapid succession at the legs of his surprised adversary, who had no possibility of defending himself, according to the indictment, from a distance of one to two meters.
The shots and shouts of eleven o’clock could be heard throughout the neighborhood, writes 20 Minuten. Two 9mm rounds from the pistol hit the 29-year-old Macedonian in the right and left leg. As he was hit, his partner tried to escape and hid behind a car.
“When he looked out the car window and saw the shooter approaching him with gun in hand, he ran first crouched and then upright in the direction of Hammerstrasse,” the Basel prosecutor’s indictment describes the dramatic moments. The defendant shot the fleeing man several times, but missed.

Uninvolved people were also in danger
“Due solely to luck and chance, none of the shots occurred in the dynamic events, and the anticipated death of the defendant did not occur,” the indictment says. The shooter also endangered bystanders by his actions.
After the fact, the shooter fled. He was arrested in Münchenstein three months after the crime.
The shooter must answer before the Basel criminal court on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 for attempted murder, multiple threats to life and crimes against the gun law.
Furthermore, there are other acts for which the criminally convicted Swiss must answer. According to the court’s compilation, the prosecutor requests at least five years in prison for the 32-year-old.
