Today, huge rocks fell into the Piz Lagrev valley in Sils GR. The cars were passing through Malojastrasse at the same time, as the video of a reader reporter shows. However, no one was injured.
“According to initial findings, the falling rocks did not affect people or vehicles,” the cantonal police of Graubünden wrote in a message. A photo taken by the cantonal police shows a stone that stopped directly at the railing.
Helicopter search flight
At 1:50 pm, the cantonal police received a message that the stones were loosening in Piz Lagrev and falling on the hiking trails to Malojastrasse. Rega and Heli Bernina began a search flight over the affected area.
The Malojastrasse between Plaun da Lej and Sils Baselgia will be closed for security reasons until further notice. The hiking trails in the Grevasalvas, Plaun da Lej and Sils Baselgia areas will also be closed until further notice. (noo)
