The weekend of the floods in 14 photos and videos

This weekend it was one thing above all: wet! Ticino residents in particular received a lot of water. Here are the best images.

Over the weekend, in some parts of Switzerland, more rain fell in a few hours than in an entire month of August.

The situation has largely calmed down in the affected areas. The water levels of the rivers and streams also fell again than normal.

The Italian canton of Switzerland was particularly affected by rain: the highest rainfall was 200 to 250 millimeters. The record value was measured at Cevio TI at 293 millimeters, as Meteonews announced on Monday.

However, this is only the value actually recorded at the station. Analysis of the radar images suggests that in parts of the Maggia and Verzasca valleys there was up to 350 millimeters of rain.

The weather will be fine again

Prospects for next week promise an improvement. At the beginning of the week, the situation is slowly calming down, individual downpours are possible until Wednesday inclusive on both sides of the Alps. However, the amount of precipitation remains relatively low.

The week starts with a majority of 18 degrees on Monday. During the week it gets hotter and during the weekend summer temperatures of up to 27 degrees are expected.
