This has never happened before: for the third time after 1999 and 2010, Gault Millau Switzerland has awarded the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz the coveted title of ‘Hotel of the Year’. “That’s quite unusual, but we had no choice,” says editor-in-chief Urs Heller (67). “Whoever sets a milestone over and over again has earned the title.”
CEO Patrick Vogler (45) and CEO Marco Zanolari (43) and their team have ushered the award-winning hotel into a new era. Kurhaus used to be. Today, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is pure lifestyle, represents modern concepts of health and excellent cuisine. “The continued success is also due to the steadfast ownership. The main shareholder is Thomas Schmidheiny (75), his daughter Lisa ( 39) represents the fourth generation on the board of directors.
Two great chefs and a renewal of 45 million
Also unique in Switzerland are two 18-point chefs, each with two Michelin stars, under one roof: Sven Wassmer (33) works at Signature Restaurant Memories, Silvio Germann (30) runs the Igniv restaurant on behalf of Andreas Caminada ( 43).
The extensive renovation of the five-star Hotel Quellenhof was instrumental in another quantum leap. Last year’s complete renovation cost 45 million francs. The first point of attraction is a 16 meter long chandelier made from 2,500 handmade glass balls.
Thermal water has flowed into the hotel since 1840.
The centerpiece of the Grand Resort is the 19th century Helena Bath, named after the Russian Grand Duchess Helena Pawlowna Romanowa (1784–1803). Thermal water has flowed from the spring directly to the hotel since 1840. The wellness offer includes a sports pool, garden pool, family spa and sauna area. Then there is the medical center.
The Grand Resort also has two 18 and 9 hole golf courses. The Gladys Club-Restaurant also has 13 Gault Millau points.
