The shipping company of Vierwaldstättersee (SGV) shortens its offer in autumn. Compared to the previous year, this will be reduced by 30 percent due to the crown, it announced on Monday.

(sda) Since the ships’ resumption of operations in June after the crown-related shutdown, the number of passengers on SGV ships has remained 47 percent below last summer’s value. This is explained by the absence of foreign tourists and the reluctance of Swiss vacationers.

The SGV criticizes the regulation that passengers who are outdoors on the outer decks must also wear a face mask. Anyone taking a seat in the restaurant on board is exempt from the mask requirement because the concept of gastronomy protection applies there.

SGV Director Stefan Schulthess said on request that the reduction in schedule would affect the routes to Küssnacht and Alpnachstad more than the main Lucerne-Flüelen route. Despite the reduced offer, a steamboat continues to circulate every day, on Saturday and Sunday two of them leave, as the message says.

The reduction of the schedule also affects the restoration of boats. SGV subsidiary Tavolago, which operates on ships but also on land, announced over the weekend that it would have to lay off about two dozen people.

Parallel to the reduced supply, SGV is also increasing short-time work again, according to its own information, to around 20 to 30 percent, as Schulthess said. This could reduce a small part of the lost income.
