Violent accident at Domat / Ems GR: several people injured in frontal and rear collisions

On Saturday there was a head-on collision between two cars and a rear-end collision with another car on the A13 motorway in Domat / Ems. Several people injured.

A 58-year-old German motorist was driving shortly before 8 a.m. on Saturday on the A13 motorway from Chur in the direction of Thusis. At the same time, a 25-year-old Swiss motorist approached from the opposite direction. For reasons that have not yet been clarified, a violent head-on collision occurred near the Reichenau train station. An 83-year-old German motorist was driving behind the southbound driver who was unable to avoid a rear-end collision. Nine people were transferred to the hospital of the canton of Chur and St. Gallen and to the hospital of Schiers, with minor or serious injuries.

Rescue and cleaning work

The road was closed for about 3.5 hours and traffic was diverted onto Italian highway H13. In addition to the Graubünden Cantonal Police, a AAA Alpine Air Ambulance helicopter, a Rega helicopter, two ambulances from Chur hospital, an ambulance from Schiers and Thusis hospital and the Chur road rescue team were on duty. Together with the Graubünden prosecution service, the Graubünden canton police are investigating the exact course of the accident.
