They criticize the mask requirement, the Covid-19 law, all the measures of the crown in general: under the slogan “Return to freedom”, a savage group of groups is calling a rally in Zurich this Saturday. This was started by Patrick Jetzer of “wirsindanderermeinung.ch”, a group that was founded during the confinement.
The main demand of the demonstration: the emergency law must be eliminated, the special situation must be lifted. “My wish would be that we also get in conversation with passersby,” says Jetzer. The trained pharmacist has about 500 participants, but concludes that it is difficult to make a prognosis. Other organizations expect significantly more attendance, including from Germany.
Support from various groups
The demonstration should serve to further broaden and mobilize the “field of resistance,” explains Daniel Regli of the Swiss Citizens’ Forum, which supports the demonstration. He organized a demonstration in Bern in June. Regli himself is no stranger: former city councilor SVP of Zurich organizes the anti-abortion demonstrations “March for the Labe”.
The rally in Zurich has the support of a dozen groups. Some of them were explicitly founded in response to the Federal Council’s crown measures, others are well known, such as the vaccination decision network around Daniel Trappitsch. What the groups have in common: They consider the measurements of the crown to be completely disproportionate.
They argue, for example, that there have been more deaths from flu waves in Switzerland than from Covid-19. They ignore the fact that without the protective measures there would have been many more cases and deaths, as the scientists emphasize.
Resistance has been announced: Already in the middle of the month, Antifa Zurich called on Twitter to show the Fundis and conspiracy theorists that they were not welcome in Zurich.
“Only put on the mask when the police ask you to”
It is questionable whether all protesters will wear a mask. Some groups note that a mask is required at rallies. However, they add: “Violations are not threatened with a fine.” On Facebook, a tip from a relevant group says: Better to wear a thin mask, “layers can often be removed to get enough air.” And also: “Wear it only when the police ask you to.”
A large Anticorona demonstration in Berlin earlier this month made headlines, during which many did not wear masks and did not adhere to the rules of distance. Another rally, which has been announced for Saturday, has been banned by authorities, but a court overturned the decision yesterday.
Not so in Zurich: Patrick Jetzer has obtained authorization from the authorities. The Zurich city police confirm that a permanent demonstration has been approved. However, some flyers are not only calling for a demonstration, but also for an unauthorized “Covid 19” parade through Zurich. Jetzer distances himself from this.
Politicians are showered with emails
Skeptics in the crown are trying to lobby not only on the street, but also at the political level. The National and the Council of States report that they have currently received dozens or even hundreds of emails with partially identical content.
Parliament will soon discuss the Covid-19 law. This is to transform the measures adopted under the emergency right into common law. Groups like the Friends of the Constitution want to avoid this, if necessary by means of a referendum.
