Exit amid Corona Crisis: Swissmem Chairman Hans Hess (65) will step down on January 1, 2021. He has had this for ten years. However, the association of manufacturers of machinery, electricity and metal is going through difficult times.
Swissmem has just reported the loss of 3,200 industrial jobs in just three months (second quarter). Hess, 65, informed Swissmem’s board committee and board in fall 2019 that he would like to relinquish his position to a successor, the association announced Friday.
Martin Hirzel is going to succeed
Swissmem proposes former Autoneum boss Martin Hirzel as his successor. His election will be voted on on September 15. Hirzel spent eight years in command of Autoneum. Prior to that, he worked in various positions for the Rieter textile machinery group, whose auto parts division later became Autoneum. Hirzel is currently a member of the board of directors of the mechanical and vehicle manufacturer Bucher Industries.
Hans Hess has chaired Swissmem since November 2010, his predecessor was former Federal Councilor Johann Schneider-Ammann. (uro / SDA)
