This was announced by the canton on Thursday. The advisory vote originally scheduled for May 17 can only take place in November 2020. The final perimeter of Grossfreiburg will be determined in the spring of 2021. It is also unclear what financial consequences the crown crisis will have on communities and, by therefore, in the respective tax rate. The merger will not be possible in January 2022, as originally planned. According to the current state, the project must be postponed for one year. The merger is one of the central projects for the canton of Freiburg.

Wednesday, May 13 – Referendums, initiatives and additional elections are possible again: As of May 31, the signatures for referendums and initiatives at the cantonal and community level can be collected again in the canton of Friborg. As the cantonal administration body writes, supplementary elections in the municipalities are now possible again. However, it is up to the municipalities to decide whether they want to vote or not. The corresponding law does not apply, according to which a seat must be filled within eight weeks after being vacated.

There are still no operations in the Riaz and Tafers hospitals: The management of the Freiburg Hospital (HFR) announces that the operating rooms in Riaz and Tafers, which were closed due to the crown pandemic, will remain for the time being. This means that specialized personnel in these places can be deployed in the cantonal hospital of the city of Freiburg. Patients for whom an intervention was planned in Riaz or Tafers are seen by their regular specialist at HFR Freiburg.

Tuesday, May 12: Alain Berset in his country of origin: The Federal Council paid a visit to the canton of Friborg together with Daniel Koch, the delegate of the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) for Covid-19. The program included a detour to a shopping center near the train station and a visit to a traditional fondue restaurant near the cathedral. On the one hand, the visit to Freiburg was on the canton’s implementation of the contact location concept and, on the other hand, on the use of protection concepts in public companies and restaurants.

After his visit, Berset told the media that the cantons had to prepare for a long phase of contact tracking and protection measures. The Federal Council also praised the cooperation with the canton and dealt with relaxation, the “new normal” and the epidemiological situation. The “new normal” is nothing special, but a normality with rules of distance and hygiene.

Monday, May 11: Canton’s administration is open again to customers:
Most cantonal administration offices reopened on Monday. Although the State Council continues to work from home, it follows the decisions of the Federal Council. However, the rules of distance and hygiene must be observed at counters with public contact. However, as announced by the State Council on Monday, it recommends that people reach official offices online, by phone or by mail, if possible.

Friday, May 8: the Freiburg media receive state support: The government is helping local media with CHF 5.4 million. According to the State Council, half of the advertising failures will be compensated before the end of the year. Local newspapers (Freiburger Nachrichten, La Liberté), regional radio Radio Freiburg and local television La Télé receive money.

In addition, the government approved a program to boost the Freiburg economy in the amount of CHF 50 million. This is intended to support projects that would have a quick impact, says construction director Jean-François Steiert. He gives the energy renovation of buildings as an example.

Canton distributes protective masks at train stations: Next Monday, the Canton of Friborg will distribute around 100,000 protective masks for travelers at train stations. The cantonal government writes that this is a “one-off campaign” that aims to encourage people to use public transport without fear. The cost of this is CHF 60,000.
