McLaren confirmed Thursday morning: Australian Daniel Ricciardo will drive for England’s traditional racing team starting in 2021. We are talking about a multi-year contract signed by a third of the World Cup in 2014 and 2016. Ricciardo, 30, becomes the stable companion of the English 20-year-old Lando Norris and the successor of Madrid’s Carlos Sainz, who moves to Ferrari.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown: “The signing of Daniel Ricciardo is another important step on our journey to bring McLaren to the top of Formula One. This is great news for our team, partners and fans.”
The Californian continues: “I would like to thank Carlos Sainz for the excellent work he has done for us. He is a true team player and we wish him all the best for the future. ”
McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl: “Daniel has shown that he can win races. His experience, dedication, and energy will be a great asset to McLaren. I think with Daniel and Lando we have two purebred racers under contract who will show Formula 1 fans exciting races. ”
Daniel Ricciardo says: «I am grateful for my time at Renault and we are not done with the work yet. I can’t wait to start in 2020. Before starting the next chapter, I want to finish the current one very strongly. ”
Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul says of the failed negotiations to extend the deal with Daniel Ricciardo: “In our sport and especially in the context of the current situation, mutual trust, unity and dedication are core values in a factory racing team. I am convinced that we will achieve more in 2020. The ambition and objectives of the Renault team have not changed.
