A BLICK reader and reporter talks about a true “lightning drum fire” that may have marveled from his balcony. Especially in German-speaking Switzerland, thunderstorms have brought light and refreshing shows. “After the start in the Bernese Oberland, the storm cells were transported with the wind from the southwest to the east of Switzerland,” Meteonews writes on Twitter.
Around 10:30 p.m., a house in Goldach SG caught fire due to lightning, St. Gallen cantonal police said. The family heard a loud bang and then found smoke in the area of the fuse box. The neighborhood also heard the outburst and saw smoke rising from the roof of the family home. The family left the house independently.
The alarmed fire department was able to extinguish the fire in the attic. The damage amounts to around CHF 100,000. The house is currently not habitable.
The temperature drop continues on Monday
In the first half of the night, downpours and thunderstorms build up throughout the Prealps, Meteonews continues. “In the second half of the night, the precipitation became more extensive and then also covered Ticino.” However, in the central region of the West and much of the Grisons, it hardly rained.
According to the weather forecast, more precipitation is expected on Sunday and Monday. Over the course of Monday, a cold front reaches the Alps: temperatures drop markedly. Read more about this in our weather ticker. (kes / szm)
