It was the great fear in the phantom game concept of a team sport: the case of the crown that caused the shaking building to collapse. The horoscenario has arrived in Germany even before Bundesliga operations resume on May 16.
Second division club Corona’s third test Dynamo Dresden tested two players on Saturday night. The Dresden Health Department decides on the basis of an in-depth analysis, also because it is not the first case in a team: the entire team, including training and supervisory personnel, must be quarantined in their home for 14 days! !
The impact: Dynamo has to suspend training and cannot play in the first two rounds. Infected players cannot leave the house, even go shopping or jogging. Only unaffected household members can make purchases. During the first tests a week ago, Dynamo had tested a player who is now in quarantine. At that time, the health authority had not quarantined the entire team.
Now the question arises: would it not have been enough, as in the case of this player, to send the infected and people living in the same household to quarantine, as also stipulated in the protection concept of the Swiss Football League ?
DFL chief Christian Seifert said Saturday night at ZDF’s “Current Sports Studio”: “We have always emphasized that local health authorities determine this for each individual case and for each team.” You set the pace. The concept is that any affected equipment should be quarantined after the decision of the responsible office. ” This was also recommended by the Conference of Sports Ministers in Germany, even if the DFL would have preferred to see that only the person in question has to be quarantined. What if another case appeared on another team? “I can’t answer this question,” says Seifert. “As stated in the guidelines, the decision always rests with the respective office.”
Is the relaunch of the Bundesliga on May 16 at risk? Seifert says no. “Not actually. 81 games are in the second division. Now it means two Dresden games cannot be played. We are not changing the goal now, we are changing the plan. The season should continue until June 30.
The Dresden case did not nullify all plans. “We have prepared for such cases and we have shock absorbers, also because we assume there could be shifts,” says the DFL managing director.
However, Dynamo Dresden is now completely out of circulation with the domestic quarantine measure, players are not even allowed to train. Means: a (training) deficit compared to competition is inevitable. This is a hot topic in the case of Dresden, as the team is currently in the middle of the relegation battle as seventeenth in the table.
For now, however, we can still wait for May 16 and the Revierderby BVB vs. Schalke and the “Swiss duel” Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Mönchengladbach.
Unless … But let’s not think about it.
