Why will youth unemployment increase in the summer?

Education economist Stefan Wolter expects youth unemployment to rise extremely in the summer due to the crown crisis. In the long run, higher staff wage demands or research budgets would also have no more opportunities in the education system.

“We will experience an extremely sharp increase in youth unemployment in the summer,” Wolter explained in an interview with “Tages-Anzeiger” and “The Bund” on Saturday. Compared to the controversy surrounding final exams in vocational schools or high schools, the employment situation of dropouts and apprentices is becoming a real challenge.

Analogously to past crises, training companies would be advised to employ their former apprentices longer. In many cases this would not be possible because the apprenticeship contract had already been signed for the next one. Many training companies also struggled for survival. Wolter advises these newly trained professionals to stay in shape, close technical gaps, or learn foreign languages.

Ten years of disadvantages

The research showed that those who would enter the labor market in a recession would suffer disadvantages in the form of lower wages or unemployment for up to ten years. According to Wolter, this also applies to academics. Although these could extend your study time, this also comes at a price and reduces your vital income.

The director of the Swiss Coordination Center for Educational Research (SKBF), which teaches at the University of Bern, also warned about the long brake marks that the crown crisis would leave in the education system. “In the long run, staff salary claims or higher research budgets will no longer stand a chance,” Wolter said.

Wolter gave clear ideas on how to pay off debts by saving on education. In the short term, this would have few visible consequences, but in the long term the damage would be immense. In the end, this would turn out to be a shot in your own leg. (sda)

Christian Gross motivates Hakaaaan to the tip of his feet and we can see

May 9, 2002: Swiss television broadcasts a documentary film about FC Basel, which is on its way to becoming the first championship title in modern times. In particular, a break from coach Christian Gross is remembered.

Eight championship titles in a row between 2010 and 2017: Until YB started shooting up, FC Basel was the measure of all things in Swiss club soccer. The times when the red-blue itself was one of those that do not have are not far away.

It was not until 2002 that the FCB won the first title of modern times, and a delightful video also dates from this period. It shows coach Christian Gross’s halftime speech in the second leg of the UI Cup final at Aston Villa in August 2001, which was …
