Liberté, fraternité, séparé: the unity of France falls apart
Citizens can move more freely in green areas than in red areas. A novelty in the strictly centralized country.
We must speak of breaking a taboo, even of a French revolution. It was invented by an economist named Bary Pradelski. The young researcher from Grenoble had an idea when he wanted to meet a mathematician friend. In the phone conversation, both of them thought they had no crown, and thus something like green oases in the flashing red country. To see each other, would they have a safe way? some kind of green bridge? through tainted Paris, they found.
This gave rise to the idea that he is now presenting to all of France. Starting Monday, the national territory will be divided into two zones. In the red zone, from Paris to the English Channel and the Rhine, the restrictions in force since March remain partially in force; In the west and south of the country, on the other hand, relaxation continues: parks, middle schools and other facilities reopen there, and if the area remains in the green zone for three weeks, cafes and restaurants can also start working again.
7000 dead in the Paris area
The division into two zones is a mental novelty for the Jacobin centralist republic, which is based not only on freedom and brotherhood, but also on Egalité, sacrosanct equality. Therefore, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe stressed on Thursday that there was still “one France”. He also sought to allay French primary fears that the country would collapse. For once, this perhaps was not necessary at all: the French understand the purpose of drawing borders across Europe’s largest country in terms of area. In the interior of the French Riviera there is not the same threat situation as a thousand kilometers in the north of the country, mainly in the Paris metropolitan area, where there are already 7,000 crown deaths.

Furthermore, the zoning devised by Pradelski can be managed flexibly: if the situation in a green apartment worsens, it automatically slides into the red zone; Public services are closed again, citizens have to wear masks. To differentiate, the government has determined three objective criteria: the number of weekly infections, the number of occupied emergency beds and the rapid tests available.
The division into green or red zones is a central part of a broad plan to loosen the curfew in France on Monday. (aargauerzeitung.ch)
