The governing council today advises the Grand Council on the payment of contributions to owners. The government wrote this in a statement. The Governing Council requested an additional loan of CHF 18 million. This is intended to support Basel-Stadt companies in relation to the Corona virus.
Under the bill, landlords who, with their tenants, have agreed to a rent reduction of at least two-thirds of the net rent by the time of the emergency measures, must be reimbursed by the canton for a third of the rent. The owners, tenants and the canton would each assume one third of the original rent.
The prerequisite is that the tenant does not fire any of its employees for financial reasons or continue to employ them in poorer conditions. The right must continue until the Federal Council measures to protect against the Corona virus are lifted, but at most during the three months of April, May and June 2020.
