Samsung’s new flagships are not selling as planned. And while Samsung blames the coronavirus pandemic, market researchers see another problem: the high price.
After the first week in South Korea, it was pretty clear that the new Galaxy S20 series would disappoint a bit in sales. In the home country, the smartphone first came to market and Samsung could always count on patriotic customers here. However, sales did not materialize this year. According to Samsung, the corona virus is responsible for this. Many customers prefer to stay home and worry about things other than their smartphones. However, there is probably another reason, as a comprehensive survey by Wave7 Research market researchers showed.
Prices are too high for many Americans.
The data was collected through surveys conducted at various stores that work with network operators in the United States. Those responsible for these stores reported problems with sales before the pandemic hit the United States. The main problem is the high price. This year, Samsung has raised prices significantly to accommodate 5G and the ultra version of the Galaxy S20. This is particularly difficult because not all countries have received a cheaper LTE version of the cell phone. Therefore, customers have to pay more, even if they can’t or don’t want to use 5G with this cell phone.
With 5G, the series starts at 999 euros for the Samsung Galaxy S20 5G. The Plus version with 5G costs 1,089 euros and the Galaxy S20 Ultra is available for 1,349 euros. There is no Ultra LTE model anywhere. This year there was also a missing successor to the cheaper Galaxy S10e. The Galaxy S20 + was particularly popular in the US. USA In 2019, $ 999 had to be put on the table. This price level is probably still the most attractive, because so far the Galaxy S20 is the most successful there and also costs $ 999. But the corona virus is also not entirely innocent of failure, because store closings and exit restrictions have reduced the number of newly activated devices for virtually all respondents.
Unfortunately, a similar survey on the situation in Germany or Europe has not yet been carried out. Have you ever thought about buying one of the new Galaxy flagships? Why would you choose for or against one of the devices? Let us know in the comments to this article.
