As in the previous year, Switzerland won the national ski championship. The advantage is considerable.
The matter was already clear before the end of the season in Lenzerheide and now it is official: like last winter, Switzerland wins the national championship at the Alpine Skiing World Cup. With a total of 10,087 points, the Swiss-Ski Austria riders clearly fell to second place (876 points behind). Italy ranked third by a wide margin.
Women make a difference
Swiss men contributed significantly more points than women, but they also contested four more races. Women were responsible for the decisive difference with Austria: Lara Gut-Behrami and Co. scored more than 800 points more than any other nation among women.
Thanks to their good results, Swiss skiers were once again the most successful for the first time since the 1994/95 season. The men defended their leading position from the previous year, but barely: in the end they were just 71 points ahead of the Austrians.
Before Switzerland’s two triumphs, Austria had won the Nations Cup 30 times in a row. Switzerland now have a total of nine victories (Austria: 42). Seven of these hits come from the glorious’ 80s.
