Bayern are there immediately. Champions, cup winners and Champions League winners do not give FC Schalke 04 a chance to open the Bundesliga football season.
Bayern Munich’s hungry triple team around triple-scorer Serge Gnabry opened the 58th Bundesliga season with a terrifying shooting festival without fans. 26 days after the Champions League triumph in Lisbon, crisis club FC Schalke 04 was just a pawn in coach Hansi Flick’s winning machine, in which star purchases are also in the easy 8: 0 (3 : 0) Friday night at the empty Allianz Arena. Leroy Sané brilliantly added as a scorer and coach in his debut.
As in training, perfectly coordinated Bayern let the ball and the rivals run and cheered the goals of Gnabry (minute 4/47/59), Leon Goretzka (19), Robert Lewandowski (31 / penalty), Thomas Müller (minute 69 )), Sané (71º) and Jamal Musiala (81º) of 17 years. Even if the Schalke players, who had not won 17 league games throughout the seasons, were a very appreciative starting opponent, a question arose: who should stop Bayern, who were undefeated in 2020, on their way to the ninth consecutive championship title?
There is no humor in the stadium
From a Bayern point of view, it was a shame that due to Corona’s increasing numbers in Munich, no Allianz Arena fan could celebrate the highest victory since the first match.
Instead, the new season was heard almost hauntingly, pop star Sascha sang the German national anthem at the almost deserted Allianz Arena. “We will have to get used to the fact that the flexibility this season requires also means that we cannot say in advance how each game day will play out,” DFL Managing Director Christian Seifert told ZDF.
Bespoke season start
On the pitch, Bayern’s triple picked up where it left off in the Champions League final in Portugal. After a strong pass from Joshua Kimmich, who arrived as a midfielder in the number six shirt after Thiago’s move to Liverpool, Gnabry easily beat the Schalke defense and scored the first goal of the season at 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Lewandowski almost came up a bit later, but Sebastian Rudy blocked the Pole’s shot in the last emergency (5th).
Newcomer Sané, who had served Lewandowski, swarmed with Gnabry in the outer positions and continued to search for the best-ranked neighbor. With 4-0 in the second half, the former Schalke player made his first submission with the Bayern jersey. For Schalke it happened too fast. Driven by Kimmich and Goretzka, the Bavarians did not leave room for the guests.
The champion had to do without David Alaba (thigh problems), but that did not affect the dominance in both halves. The “first correct positioning” announced by Flick should be of great concern to the rest of the league. With great enthusiasm and almost blind understanding, Bayern rolled into Schalke’s goal again and again, former Gelsenkirchen Goretzka scored from the edge of the penalty area against overly passive guests. Kimmich missed before S04 goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann (24th).
Schalke coach David Wagner had bravely built his squad. Striker Gonçalo Paciência, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, who even had the first chance of the match (1st) and at least indicated his ability, was already in the starting eleven. The Royal Blues, who had only reached twelfth place after the undisputed second half of the season, continued to play dizzy. International player Suat Serdar also had to be replaced early due to muscular problems (30th).
Lewandowski converted the self-charged penalty after a foul from Ozan Kabak. The top scorer was successful in the opening game for the sixth consecutive year. Shortly before the break, Fährmann held out against Goretzka, Niklas Süle hit the post with his margin (41.). Shortly after the restart, Gnabry scored Munich’s fourth goal after a counterattack played with Sané and also added the fifth, his first Bundesliga triple in the Bayern jersey. Müller and Sané and the substitute Musiala made perfect the warning to the competition. (dpa)
