On Friday afternoon, a line 6 tram derailed at the shipyard. As a video from a Telebasel Reader reporter shows, the last car in the tram composition has derailed.
At Telebasel’s request, BVB confirmed that there was a derailment with a composition called “cornichon”. The tram left Schifflände at 4 pm in the direction of Riehen, and the last of a total of three cars derailed. BVB is currently on site and is investigating how the derailment occurred.
“We can say that it was not an accident that caused the derailment,” BVB media spokeswoman Sonja Koerkel told Telebasel. It is now being investigated whether, for example, an object was lying on the rails or whether other factors led to the derailment.
There are probably no injuries
The Basel police were also on the scene. Police are currently unaware of the injured, as media spokesman Toprak Yerguz told Telebasel.
Since there is only two-wheeler traffic on the jetty, no major obstructions to road traffic were expected: bicycles and two-wheelers could easily be diverted, according to Yerguz.
Diversions and delays
Due to the incident, there were delays and diversions on various BVB lines until around 7:30 pm Lines 6, 8, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 31, 33, 34, 36 and 38 were affected.
The line network failure has now been resolved:
