For the second time after 2017, the European Beach Volleyball Championship is taking place in Jurmala, Latvia. There are also 4 Swiss duos. The two women’s teams are even among the contenders for the title.

Where do you play?
- On the beach of Jurmala, a seaside resort about 20 km from Riga.
When will it be played?
- On Tuesday, September 15, the MS begins with group matches. The women’s final will take place on Saturday, September 19. A day later, the men choose their champions.
What is there to win?
- The tournament is endowed with 200,000 euros. The winning teams will each receive 20,000 euros and each athlete will also receive 300 European and world ranking points.
How does the mode work?
- There are 32 duets for both women and men. In the 8 groups of 4 teams per gender, the group winners qualify directly for the round of 16. The group runners-up and third parties are in the sixteenth final.
What Swiss are there?
- Represented in the women’s tournament Nina Betschart / Tanja Hüberli how Joana Heidrich / Anouk Vergé-Dépré Swiss colors. With men are Mirco Gerson / Adrian Heidrich and Florian Breer / Marco Krattiger with that.
What can the Swiss be trusted?
- From the Swiss point of view, a lot can be expected from women. Betschart / Hüberli occupy the top positions. Heidrich / Vergé-Dépré are number 3 on the seedling list. Both duos are hot candidates for the medal.
- It would be a great surprise to be in the top 3 among men. Gerson / Heidrich (ranked 12) and Breer / Krattiger (No. 25) are just outsiders.
How often do Swiss teams win medals at the European Championship?
- There was a time when medals from the European Championship were the order of the day for men. In the 10 tournaments from 1997 to 2006, no less than 13 medals (including 4 gold medals) went to Switzerland. However, since 2006, men have been waiting for more precious metals.
- Since the premiere in 1994, Swiss women have come home five times with EM medals. The only gold is from 2004 (Simone Kuhn and Nicole Schnyder-Benoit). Betschart / Hüberli came in second place two years ago.
