Only Peter and Deschwanden survive qualification
Simon Ammann failed at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in qualifying for the Four Hills Tournament New Years competition. Toggenburger’s jump to 118 meters was enough for 52nd place. His teammates Dominik Peter (123 meters) and Gregor Deschwanden (128.5 meters) did better at 44th and 31st respectively. Anze Lanisek won the classification. The Slovenian prevailed with a jump of 139 meters ahead of Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway and Markus Eisenbichler of Germany. Tour leader Karl Geiger jumped to fifth place.

Lindvik has to cancel the tour
Norway’s Marius Lindvik had to give up a qualifying start due to a severe toothache and is therefore unable to start the competition on Friday. At the start in Oberstdorf, Lindvik was third behind Karl Geiger and Kamil Stoch from Poland. Last year, the 22-year-old was second overall, behind Polish winner Dawid Kubacki and ahead of Geiger.
Corona case among the Russians
There is another crown case in the Four Hills Tournament. As the organizers announced on Thursday, a Russian athlete tested positive as part of routine checks in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The affected athlete is in quarantine. In addition, 3 other members of the Russian ski jumping team, including another athlete, were classified as Category I contact persons and were also quarantined.
