- Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö triumphs in the 10 km speed Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti (FIN).
- Like the day before, Benjamin Weger is the best Swiss of the men’s quartet.
- The Swedish Hanna Öberg prevails among women.
On Saturday he had to admit defeat to compatriot Sturla Lägreid in the season opener, now Johannes Thingnes Bö impressively reported. The Norwegian didn’t give the competition the slightest chance in the 10km sprint at Kontiolahti. Without failing, Bö took off his first pursuer, Sebastian Samuelsson (SWE), a whopping 44.1 seconds. Martin Ponsiluoma (SWE) completed the podium (+47.9).
Lägreid, on whom many eyes were on, could not repeat his outstanding performance on Saturday and was 18 years old.
World Cup points for Weger
Like the day before, the Swiss remained more than 20 km unexploded. Benjamin Weger missed a target on the first shot and therefore had to complete a penalty loop.
With 22nd place and 1: 39.8 minutes behind, he could expect 19 more points for the World Cup. Jeremy Finello (63rd), Sebastian Stalder (77th) and Eligius Tambornino (86th), however, left empty handed.
3 Swiss women in the top 30
Hanna Öberg set the tone for the women over 7.5km. The Swede relegated the Norwegian duo Marte Olsbu Röiseland and Karoline Offigstad Knotten to places 2 and 3.
Saturday’s top favorite and winner, Dorothea Wierer, had to take the win from the start. The Italian missed the target once on her first attempt at the shooting range, earning her a penalty. In the end, the preseason dominator was just 22 years old.
Swiss women presented themselves more or less solidly. Selina (17th) and Aita Gasparin (20th), as well as Irene Cadurisch (30th) performed convincingly with the first 30 results. For Elisa Gasparin (47th) and Lena Häcki (51st), the points were out of reach.
