- The tremor was felt in several neighborhoods of the city of Bern and made the floors and table tops vibrate.
- However, no damage is expected with this force.
“We have now received almost 1,000 reports,” says Florian Haslinger of the Swiss Seismological Service at ETH Zurich. “The earthquake was relatively close to the surface, so minor damage cannot be ruled out, but none is expected in principle.”
It was the 202 earthquake of that year.
The last earthquake in the Bern region occurred on the night of February 3. At that moment the earth shook in Bremgarten with a magnitude of 2.8 on the Richter scale. Two minor tremors had already been recorded beforehand.
100 earthquakes a month are completely normal for us.
As strong and notable as Monday in Bern, the last tremor was on March 1 at Steckborn TG with a value of 3 on the scale.
Mild earthquakes are not uncommon in Switzerland. Last year, the earthquake service at ETH Zurich recorded a total of 1,400 earthquakes. That is slightly above the long-term average.
