The national soccer team will face Italy, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. SRF expert Beni Huggel assesses the Swiss group.

The Swiss team has known their opponents in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar since Monday. These are Italy, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria, and Lithuania.

On paper, Switzerland is number 2 in this group behind the “Azzurri”. Beni Huggel sees it that way too. However, the SRF expert gives the Swiss a chance to win the group and the associated direct qualification for the World Cup finals. “It will certainly be difficult, but Switzerland can claim that it left Italy behind,” says Huggel.
