The podium
- 1. Petra Vlhova (SVK) 1: 49.05
- 2. Michelle Gisin (SUI) +0.31
- 3. Katharina Liensberger (AUT) +0.50
Michelle Gisin finished on a slalom podium for the second time in her career. Engelberg’s wife only had to admit defeat to Slovakian Petra Vlhova in Levi. After the first race, they were both on top at the same time.
In the final, the currently outstanding athlete climbed between the slalom poles again, distancing Gisin by 31 hundredths and clinching her second victory in 24 hours, the fifth in the consecutive slalom and the 16th in the World Cup.
For Gisin it is the ninth podium of the World Cup. Her best slalom result so far was third place at Lienz 2019. Like the day before, Austrian Katharina Liensberger took third place.
The other Swiss women:
- 4. Wendy Holdener +0.79
- Failed in the first race: 35 ° Camille Rast, 53 ° Nicole Good, 54 ° Caroline Bissig. Out: Mélanie Meillard.
Holdener had only lost 23 hundredths to the superior duo Gisin / Vlhova in the first race. The ninth fastest time in the final, however, dropped her off the podium.
Shiffrin beaten
After all, the Schwyzerin was ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin. The cautious American had to settle for 5th place. It was the first time in six years that the American did not take the podium in a slalom when she reached the finish line.
The Austrians showed a great team performance with 5 riders in the top 15. Finnish 17-year-old Rosa Pohjolainen, who was 63rd in points and finished 27th, made the few admitted spectators happy. As on Saturday, the Swedes, who are in quarantine due to a case of corona on their staff, were not at the start.
So it goes
The female entourage is now moving to Austria, where a parallel race is scheduled for next Thursday in Lech-Zürs. Friday is the men’s turn.
