2: 2 at St. Jakob-Park – Vaduz spoils start of season for FCB – sport

In the end, it was the position that secured FC Basel a point against Vaduz. Because a Boris Prokopic conclusion in stoppage time only landed on aluminum and prevented 3-2 for the promoted team, a victory would have been too great a reward for the Liechtenstein team.

For a long time, there was little indication that Vaduz’s team would score points at St. Jakob-Park. Although it was not a masterpiece what FCB offered, the Liechtenstein team were surprisingly harmless on offense and fell behind until the 78th minute.

Nikolic is wrong, Sutter dusts himself

Then Nicolae Milinceanu hit the spot from a corner kick and pushed the ball over the line to make it 2-2. Vaduz’s other goal at 1: 1 came from a serious mistake by FCB goalkeeper Djordje Nikolic in the first half, who had left the ball ready for the guest (29th).

Basel’s two goals had come before the break:

• After just 6 minutes, Basel’s storm tank Artur Cabral made it 1-0 with the hoe (see video below).
• In the 38th minute, Valentin Stocker put Basel ahead for the second time. He made a good attack down the left side in the far corner.

Otherwise there was too little (too much) offense from Basel 72 hours after the Europa League qualifying win against Osijek. The new FCB coach, Ciriaco Sforza, did not start the season in the national league as expected, while Vaduz’s return to the first Swiss league after 3 years can be described as a success.
